At Little Ferns, our classroom is inspired by the principles of the Reggio Emilia approach, where children learn through exploration, creativity, and meaningful materials. Because of this, many of the items we use are not traditional “toys,” but thoughtfully chosen materials that encourage imagination and open-ended play.
You’ll notice we often seek “loose parts”—these are natural or everyday items that children can move, combine, redesign, line up, and take apart in endless ways. Loose parts might include things like wood pieces, fabric, shells, baskets, or recycled materials. These items support problem-solving, creativity, and deeper learning experiences far beyond what conventional toys typically offer.
We gladly accept the items listed below on a weekly basis and truly appreciate your support in helping us create a rich, engaging environment for our children. If you have items you’d like to donate that are not specifically listed, please check with us first to ensure they align with our program’s needs.
